Washburn County is located in northwest Wisconsin. It is named for Cadwallader Washburn, 11th Governor of Wisconsin
The seat is Shell Lake, while the largest city is Spooner. The area has a considerable amount of tourism.
US-53, US-63 and WI-70 are the main roads through the county.
It is bordered by Douglas, Bayfield, Sawyer, Rusk, Barron and Burnett Counties.
